Village Services are responsible for everything that keeps our wonderful village going, from day-to-day operations through snow removal and paving, to the April Easter Egg Hunt and the Annual Community Thanskgiving Dinner. Additionally, the various boards, permits, and assessment offices ensure that the character and the quality of life of our village will endure.
Village Clerk's Office
Function: The Village Clerk’s office is a good general resource for information about Village operations. It handles the day-to-day running of the Village, including billing, collections, payroll, employee benefits and vital records. Residents can pay their taxes and water and sewer bills at the Clerk’s office, conduct tax searches, and obtain birth and death certificates, games of chance and bingo licenses, handicapped parking permits and other permits.
Building Department
Function: The Building Department is comprised of two part-time Building Inspectors/Code-Enforcement Officers, and the Fire Code Enforcement Officer. It is responsible for:
- Issuing permits for new construction, repairs, fences, signs and pools
- Ensuring that all Village buildings meet the requirements for New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code
- Performing fire safety inspections
- Issuing chicken permits

Department of Public Works
Function: The Department of Public Works, headed by the Working Foreman, performs the following services in the Village:
- Street maintenance
- Snow removal
- Water and sewer maintenance
- Leaf and brush pickup
- Park maintenance
Planning Board
Function: The five-member Planning Board is appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees, and is assisted by a Planning Board Secretary and the Planning Board Attorney. Each member serves on the Board for five years. The Board works to ensure that Village land is conserved, protected and used properly and that the Village grows in an orderly fashion. All applications to the Planning Board must be submitted to the Village Clerk in advance of presentation to the Board. The Board’s duties include:
- Approving site plans prior to issuance of a building permit (except for one- or two-family homes)
- Approving subdivisions of land
- Reviewing and approving site plans for all ground signs or signs on multitenant buildings
Zoning Board of Appeals
Function: The five-member Board of Appeals is appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees. Each member serves on the Board for five years.
The Board of Appeals decides questions that arise from the application of the Village’s zoning laws, or requests for exemption from compliance with the Village’s zoning laws. Its duties include:
- Publishing notices of public hearings on variance requests
- Resolving questions about the interpretation of zoning laws
- Varying or adapting the application of zoning laws in certain cases
- Issuing special use permits
Animal Control Officers
Note on rabid animals: If you suspect a rabid animal you can also call 911 and they will dispatch the closest law enforcement officer to take care of the animal. An animal is tested for rabies only if it has bitten a person or pet.
