In celebration of Arbor Day the Village of Ballston Spa Park and Tree Board will be planting a tree at Kelley Park this coming Saturday, April 29, at 10am.

It might be a little cloudy and wet that morning, but that’s ok! The Park and Tree Board will speak about how to properly plant, prune, and provide tree maintenance.

The Park and Tree Board will be planting a very special tree. It is a sycamore that is a descendant of a tree grown from a seed that was taken to the moon in 1971 by astronaut Stuart Roosa on the Apollo 14 mission.

The sycamore is a fast growing, flood tolerant tree. It will be perfect for Kelley Park, and will someday provide some much needed shade in that area.

Trees reduce air pollution, reduce energy usage, filter stormwater, and cool city streets by providing shade and releasing water vapor. Have you been thinking about planting a tree? Now is the perfect time! Reach out to the Park and Tree Board at any time to learn about recommended trees for our Village

Kris Willams, THe Park and Tree Board Cornell Cooperative tree expert has already tested the soil in the park to ensure compatibility.  If attendance is good, Kris will give a little chat on proper tree planting, pruning and maintenance.

So, despite the chilly and possibly wet weather, the Village of Ballston Spa is super excited for our very special, and very appropriate for the park, tree.

Bundle in some weather appropriate attire and join us.
